What changed in the ARRT 2027 Radiography specifications

Image Production
Biggest shift
Computed Radiography (CR) content is removed entirely.
Image receptor language becomes digital detectors, with detective quantum efficiency (DQE) and exposure latitude as named parameters.
Virtual grids are added. Compensating filters are removed.
Image contrast and subject contrast are added to the factors affecting radiographic quality.
Procedures
Myelography adds lumbar puncture and epidural injections.
Arthrography adds joint injections and aspirations.
Thorax adds foreign body removal, line placement with a C-arm, and nasogastric or enteric tube placement.
Genitourinary studies remove intravenous urography and retrograde urography.
The positioning list is refreshed: Attachment B is eliminated, and less common projections are swapped for more common ones.
Safety
The term morbid obesity is replaced with body habitus to cover all body types.
Pregnancy considerations and the Image Wisely and Image Gently references are added to minimizing patient exposure and repeats.
Patient Care
Patient scheduling is added to interpersonal communications.
IV supplies are added to the disposal of contaminated materials.
Informatics
Security, confidentiality, and teleradiography are added to the informatics content.
Clinical Competency Requirements
The CPR requirement changes to BLS or ACLS certification.
Vital signs temperature and venipuncture are removed from general patient-care requirements.
Mandatory procedures change from 36 to 35. Elective procedures change from 15 to 16 or 17.
